**At his homes in LA they always had cooks and the maids to to do cooking,
cleaning etc. However, at his Palm Springs homes, where he usually went for
the weekeds or for short stays between movies, etc. it was an entirely
different story. Sometimes the cooks came down but alot of times they did not.
When they (the cooks) didn't come down it was pretty pathetic. No food in the
house until Charlie or someone decided to go and get groceries and then it was
mostly those tv dinners in the little tinny plates. They would order in food
alot and I think if it weren't for the girls that were around everything would
have just been left sitting on the coffee tables etc. Ok, to give Charlie
credit, he was a bit of a neat freak and did go around and tidy up usually. As
for Elvis cooking-sure he would-he put in some little weenies wrapped in dough
and BURNED THEM!
Another time he made toast but the toaster wasn't plugged in.
Then there was the time he made frozen orange juice-added too much water so
dumped in another can of frozen concentrate. It was horrible! He didn't
believe in reading directions!
As for laying on the couch and watching tv...if there was room for him to lay
down, of course he would. !
Other forms of entertainment when they got desperate would be to light up the
living room with literally hundreds of candles, turn off all the lights and
everyone took turns talking about whatever the. subject of the evening was.
Elvis always went last because once he started talking, he never stopped.
Also,Did he ever talk about going to college, or doing something else
besides singing and entertaining? I know how much he loved his fans, and
music, but everyone has mixed feelings sometimes.
**Someone actually asked him that question once and at the time he said that
entertaining was his life. He may have started to lean towards gospel more if
he'd had the chance but who knows.
