One of the greatest days of my life was the day I saw Elvis, it was
March, 1960 and he had just returned from the Army. He came to the gate
and signed autographs. He was gorgeous. I had loved his music and now
I had seen the man and all was well with the world. After that I was
blessed to be able to be around Elvis for many years and that was my
beginning. Of course, I was only 12 years old, so I had to depend on my
father to take me to Graceland. During the period that Elvis was gone I
became friends with his Uncle Travis and his Aunt Loraine Smith. They
were great people and were so kind to a young girl crazy about Elvis.
When I came to the gate that day Travis and Loraine were there and
informed me that Elvis was coming to the gate and that I should stay.
Loraine put me and my Mom in the car with her because it was so cold
outside, but when Elvis came down we went outside the gate. There was
a huge crowd. I couldn't believe how beautiful he was, like no other
man I have ever seen or ever will. That was the beginning.Kommentar

Elvis came to Colorado for a couple of trips. One was for a vacation in
Vail the other was for the funeral of Denver policeman Ron Petrofesso's
brother. When Elvis was in Denver on one of those trips he tried to buy
a couple of homes in the Denver area. One of the homes was a japanese
style mansion on the outskirts of Denver. It was located on the edge of
the Pine Hurst Country Club golf cource and it had its own private nine
hole golfcoarse. The deal fell through because the country club wouldn't
let him erect a wall around the property. The news got out that Elvis
was trying to buy the house and fans started to hang out at the front of
the property and some started to steal rocks from the garden. The Rocky
Mountain News finally had to run a story that Elvis doesn't live there!
In 1987 they had tours through the house to raise money for charity. It
was billed as the house Elvis almost bought. I went on the tour and the
house would have been perfect for Elvis. It had peacocks roaming the
property and the place was totally 70's, with avocado green and
turquoise sinks and deep shag carpet. The master suite was decorated
with black leather and red velvet wall paper and it had a slide right
into the pool. Coincidentally, my dad installed all the phones in the
house when it was built so I had seen and heard about this house all my
life! Another house Elvis tried to buy is the famous "Sleeper" house.
The futuristic house used in the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper". The house
looks like a flying saucer. It was designed by Charles Deaton and you
can see the house if you google his name. It sits above Mt. Vernon
Canyon just west of Denver and can be seen from I-70. The house was
never finished until just recently and has still never been lived in! It
is for sale for around 10 million. Again, the deal fell through over
Elvis wanting to build a wall around it. Coincidentally again, I wound
up living on the mountain right next to it about 10 years ago and I look
at it everyday!
On the trip for the funeral, Elvis ate at Ron Petrofesso's family's
italian restaurant. When we heard he ate there, we had to go eat there
too. They let me sit in the same chair that Elvis sat in. The owner came
over and talked to us and told us about the whole Elvis episode. He said
that Elvis came in with his entouage and several police officers after
hours. He ate this enormous sausage canoli (sausage, cheese and sauce
wrapped in dough). After that he went into the kitchen and helped make a
pizza. That devolved into a pizza flour fight!Kommentar

I was in Hawaii for many months in 1969 - unkown to us (my girlfriend and
I) Elvis flew into Hawaii and checked into the Ilikai hotel. One
afternoon while we were sitting on the patio of the Ilikai hotel, the
hotel elevator opened up onto the patio and out stepped Joe, Charlie, and
a few friends. We knew what was about to follow and sure enough, out
comes Elvis, he looked tanned and relaxed. To make a long story short he
sat down at the table next to us - after a few moments he recognized us
from LA, got up from his chair and came over for a few moments, then sent
us drinks. It was great!! We left Hawaii shortly after that to attend
his opening in Vegas .
I'll tell you one thing - it sure made an impression on the two guys we
were with to have Elvis Presley recognize you and call you by name!! Made
our day.....heck ..... made our year!!!!!!!

I am from Denver Colorado and when Elvis came Denver on his famous car
buying and giving away spree in 1976, I was 15. During Elvis's visit he
was taken to an italian restaurant, La Travea, by his friend and Denver
policeman Ron Petrofeso. After hearing about this, I had to go eat
there. I wanted sit where Elvis sat and to eat what Elvis ate. The owner
showed us to the table and said that Elvis had their large dinner
cannoli which was dough wrapped around cheese, tomato sauce, sausage,
peppers and onions. He said it served 4 but that Elvis ate it all
himself. When I got mine it was huge. It was about twelve inches long
and about 6 inches wide and 4 inches tall. When I tried to eat it, I
could barely eat a quarter of it and I was a growing teenage boy! The
owner told us that after Elvis finished he went into the kitchen and
made his own pizza. He said that Elvis was like a kid, throwing flour
and cheese at everybody with flour all over himself. He also ate a few
slices of that pizza! The owner said that he has never seen anyone eat
that much and that for all that food that Elvis really wasn't that
overweight. He said that Elvis seemed to really relax and have fun that
night.Kommentar
