also ich übersetz das sinngemäß in etwa so ... wenn du die Liebe, die ich dir geben kann, zurückweist, da gibt es sehr wohl eine andere, die meine Zuneigung zu schätzen wüßte ...

allerdings weiß ich nicht so recht wie man Honky Tonk Angel in diesem Fall adäquat übersetzt ... "Bardame" oder "leichtes Mädchen"

Ich persönlich habe es immer so interpretiert, der "Honky Tonk Angel" steht im Kontext des Songs für eine Art "Engel der Liebe" - nur auf "Südstaatenart" umschrieben...

Also vom lyrischen Ich ausgehend - wenn "Sie" (die Frau, die seine dargebotene Liebe zurückweist), dann soll sie es ihm sagen, aber sie soll es von sich aus beenden... ...und danach geht seine Hoffnung davon aus, die eine, große Liebe zu finden, auf dessen Suche er (weiterhin) ist... ...mithilfe des übergeordneten "Honky Tonk Angel"...

Der Text beschreibt eine unerschütterbare Liebe..das ist nicht traurig..aber die Stimmung dieses Liedes ist schon getragen und schwer....aber regelrecht traurig finde ich es nicht...wäre jetzt eine Frage was ich für Gemütszustände unter "traurig" zusammenfasse.

Ich interpretiere den Text viel profaner: der "Engel" ist eine Frau, die den Großteil ihrer an (oder hinter) der Theke abhängt (honky tonk = Bar, Kaschemme etc pp), und zu der er (also das lyrische Ich, bzw Lied-Ich ) jederzeit zurückkehren kann.

Ihr wisst schon: eine Frau, die gestrandete Typen für eine oder mehr Nächte bei sich aufnimmt.

Ob der Text jetzt von feiner Ironie geprägt oder ernst gemeint ist, vermag ich nicht zu sagen.

Moment mal, aber ihr habt schon mitbekommen, dass der Text lautet "If I had you", oder? 'Irrealis' ist das Stichwort. Und "should you ask me for the world / Somehow I'd get it / I would sell my very soul" ... Ich habe es immer so verstanden, dass er alles täte, seine Seele verkaufen und es nicht bereuen würde, weil ein Leben ohne sie eben unmöglich erscheint. Aber es ist trotzdem ein Leben ohne sie ...
